Hi!
I am running Kubuntu 13.04 with KDE 4.10.2 and I have the problem that kio_thumbnail is running with 100% Processor-speed even though
This is how top looks like at the moment:
Best regards and thanks in advance! Hauke |

This is probably a hung process from previous use of the system - such as with Dolphin, Gwenview, etc.
To fix this, simply kill the kio_thumbnail process in question.

Hi!
Thanks for the answer. I tried killing (both with general killall kio_thumbnail and killing the specific process) it but it re-appeared. After a while though (maybe 1-2 hours) it disappeared by itself though. So problem solved |

Okay. If it reappears in the future, it might be helpful to run "lsof" against the process in question to find out which file it is processing as further improvements may be needed on the thumbnailing process for that type of file.

I still have this problem quite often on 4.13.3. This is on kubuntu 14.04.
I saw a similar topic at arch: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=146607. There, it was suggested that this is linked to "preview" being activated. So I turned off the preview function, and the CPU load immediately went down to normal levels. (For the sake of completeness, I should probably mention that I am seeing this on konqueror and not on dolphin (which I almost never use). |
