Hello, I am trying to make more use of my desktop, which is set to "folder view" (this is KDE 4.10.2)
I have a file (a .pdf) in my Documents folder, and when I right-click it in Dolphin, I can select "Activities - "Link to" - Desktop. I was hoping that this would put a link to the .pdf onto my desktop, but it didn't. What am I missing here? Thanks. |

The "Activities" sub-menu of the context menu is provided by "KActivities", a KDE module that lets you define different activities that you usually perform on your computer and define relationships between those activities and some applications and files.
To add a link to a file to the directory shown on the desktop in FolderView, simply drag the file from Dolphin and drop it on some empty space in FolderView. |

Thanks Freining, I never was able to wrap my head around the whole "activities" concept, but minimizing all open windows, then resizing the Dolphin window, then dragging the icon onto the desktop, then selecting "Link Here" did indeed work.
It would be neat if there was a simpler method, but this works, and I appreciate learning about this method. |
