Task Manager's Trash Can doesn't open trash can in Dolphin

Hello Everyone.

I've done some poking around in the forums, but I haven't found anything on this particular topic. I'm running Kubuntu 13.10 on an HP Envy laptop, and my problem involves the trash can widget on my task manager panel. When I click on the trash can, regardless of whether it's empty or not, Dolphin opens into a view of my Home directory instead of the Trash directory. It used to open in the Trash directory and show any files to be deleted, but now I have to click on the trash icon under the list of places. I've tried removing the widget and re-adding it, but this behavior persists. Any suggestions for a fix?

Thanks,
Ray

Yes: upgrade to Dolphin 4.11.4 or later. This looks like https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=327224.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm trying to make the switch from Windows to Linux, and I want to learn as much about Linux (Kubuntu specifically) as possible. This community has been very useful so far for that.

When you say upgrade to 4.11.4, I'm not sure what to do at that point. When I run the Update Manager, it says I'm fully updated. When I run the package manager, it says Dolphin is version, 4.11.3, and that the only available version is 4.11.3. Should I assume then that I need to do something manually (i.e., from the command line)?

Some distributions do not make new bug fix releases available by default, at least not immediately. So you could either

(a) Wait until Kubuntu upgrades their packages to 4.11.4 or 4.11.5. I don't know if and when that will happen.

(b) Add some non-default package repositories, which will then provide either 4.11.5 or 4.12.0 packages. I'm unfamiliar with Kubuntu, but a quick Google search for
"kubuntu kde 4.12" yields the following result: http://www.kubuntu.org/news/kde-sc-4.12

If you have further questions concerning package upgrades in Kubuntu, you might want to ask in a Kubuntu forum for further assistance.

Thanks again for the useful information. I'll look into the timeline for package upgrades and into the package repositories for the newer versions.

I succeeded in upgrading Dolphin via the Kubuntu backports PPA, and the trash can, bluetooth devices shortcut, etc. are working correctly now. Thanks again for the help.
