Copy/Move Dialogue Shortcomings?

Thu Apr 23, 2015 5:50 pm
The copy/move selector that comes up when moving a file from one panel to another gives me minimal information about the file I'm working with, particularly important when there is a file of the same name in the opposite directory.

The selector itself is huge with Source and Destination paths crammed in side by side up near the top, followed by lots of empty space and then the Rename option down near the bottom.

There is NO information on the file size or file date presented which makes it especially awkward if I'm going to over-write a file of the same name but of a different size and/or date.

It seems to me that this information used to be present but somewhere along the line disappeared.

This happens in Manjaro KDE 0.8.12 with Dolphin v. 14.12.3 and in Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca with Dolphin v. 4.14.2. This is not strictly a Dolphin problem as the same dialogue shows up when using Krusader.

Could it be something as simple as I'm missing a package??

Could also be https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334235.

I.e. your kdelibs might have been built without Nepomuk support, which is needed for the file rename dialog to show more detailed information.

If you don't want to compile kdelibs yourself, you have to tell your distribution to enable Nepomuk support again in that case.
But according to https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/41211, they don't want to do that in Manjaro...

That's exactly what I'm seeing. From https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/41211

According to upstream this requires Nepomuk. Nepomuk is obsolete and was dropped long time ago, and won't be back. So I'm afraid this is a won't fix. Dolphin will be ported to KF5 in a few months, and this will be fixed then

So it looks like there won't be any changes for some time yet.

Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca also suffers from this problem. Seems like a fairly serious shortcoming. I guess I wait :)

Thanks
