Hi, I would like to use dolphin as a standalone FTP client.
I am all set with the connection and split view, all I need is set up either ASCII or binary transfer. Where do I hack that? Thanks |

Don't understand. Am I supposed to install anything new in order to have the option on dolphin? Kio-extras, kio-ftp, sftp?
Thanks a lot. |

You asked "Where do I hack that?" and I linked the relevant code repos.
You'll otherwise have to explain what you actually want (I'm not sure whether there's configuration to switch between bin/ascii - should likely be autochosen) If you want to enter an ftp server in dolphin and have the relevant kio slave installed (depends on your distro, ftp is part of the "core" kio clients and should be installed along dolphin) just enter
into the location bar. |

Dolphin certainly uses binary for ftp. Why would you ever want to use ascii?
I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.

There are servers which disable it. Stupid, but legal.
(I don't know whether kio-ftp supports ascii and also auto-uses it) |

They say you need to use ASCII for wordpress blogs...
Is that not mandatory? |

That's close to rubbish.
The most relevant aspect of ASCII is that the other side can map between LF and CRLF (linebreaks in text files). => I suggest you just try. In worst case, some text file will be up/downloaded brokenly ("wrong" linebreaks) Looking at the code, there seems to be a "textmode" config key (false by default), but I can't see where it's read from. |
