OK... I finally upgraded. bad enough that Konqueror is basically unusable at this point; where is the setting menu in Dolphin?? How about the toolbar? Please tell me something is broken on this install because i cannot believe that the default file manager was deliberately crippled like this.

assuming menu bar showing (else ctrl+M) settings -> toobars shown -> select main toolbar

or right click just above the address bar there should be a toolbars settings menu that pops up, click on toolbars shown -> select main toolbar

OK, that worked, thanks. why in the name of god is the menubar hidden by default?

It shouldn't and I doubt it normally does - Google'ing found only only one older post
