Dolphin and SSL / TLS

Fri Mar 18, 2016 10:20 pm
I am trying to get Dolphin to make an SFTP connection.

The tech support of my WWW host company has asked , "Can you please confirm you have enabled "SSL/TLS" on your FTP tool ..."

Does Dolphin support SSL / TLS?

Yes, it does.
But it seems you're mixing up things.

SFTP has nothing to do with FTP, and is actually using SSH (SFTP is the abbreviation of SSH File Transfer Protocol).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSH_File_ ... r_Protocol

What you seem to want is FTP over SSL, i.e. FTPS.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FTPS

To use this, just enter a ftps:// URL instead of ftp://.

PS: ftps:// doesn't work (I thought it would).
Sorry, no idea then. It's probably not supported.
sftp:// is, but it has to be supported by the server too of course.
If you have SSH access, you can also try fish://.

kio-ftps is a 3rd party module (and unlikely ported to KF/5, maybe not even SC4)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=66117

=> The answer is "not really".
If you can, use sftp and notably do not rely on ftps to secure the data transmision (encryption might turn off after the login)

To figure what your sever provides: "man nmap"

Agree - my WWW host was not understanding that I was asking about SFTP support and then incorrectly asked me about SSL / TLS.

It seems that they don't support SFTP and want me to use FTPS ... which Dolphin does not support.
