I do not know if this is the right place for this type of request! In practice in this image I try to choose a file to be displayed on VLC, in this case if the folder in which there are files I'm looking there are many files, it would be nice to have a filter to search for the file by name! What do you think?

these kind of questions/request are more Brainstorm Forum or a wish on bugs.kde.org
you want more then the filter functionality in Dolphin, you want the filter/search to include files in all sub-folders? obviously alternatively you can start in Dolphin, search and then open with VLC and for the current folder you can filter by typing the in the name field but only with the initial characters in the name I think its a valid request |

ok, thanks for the answer, I'll try to move it to the Brainstorm section, hoping it will be taken into consideration

If you can search by an index (baloo, mlocate), you don't need to move to some folder itfp.
If you need to search the filesystem, searching is considerably slower than filtering (assume you're doing that on an optical disc - ewww...) Also if you filter for "jpg", it's not helpful, if the 100+ folders which all contain a jpeg somewhere stash the actual jpegs in the current folder. => you usecase mandates a flattened output and that is what searching does. I do completely not understand why merging the filter and search functionalities would make sense. Instead, maybe the seachbox should be improved? (better defaults, input focus handling, etc.) |

I would think something like a rlocate (is it even still developed/distributed) kio would be useful in open dialogs or a baloo kio that only searched filenames (to speed the process). Seems there would be a convenience to do this from an open dialog instead of switching to Dolphin and using the search dialog.

I would like to explain my use case:
I use this with VLC when I watch a film in English (I do not speak English are Italian) and in addition to the video file and then, well I need the srt subtitle file! In that case I have to use "Open Multiple files" to upload video and subtitles, in this case, I sometimes find myself looking for the videos or files I need in the midst of many other files, so it would be nice to have a search filter for the file name |
