Dolphin current can't find anything in hidden directories. If it can I haven't found any setting for it. Kfind on the other hand works very good at finding files, but has no icon or menu entry so you need to run from alt-f2 or konsole. I can't seem to find a way to put it into dolphin as an addon/plugin. Why not take the good functionality of kfind and put it in as the main search function for dolphin?

Dolphin & KFind

Accepted but not submitted: DolphinSearchBox: Add a "More search tools..." menu button - https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/123883/

This will add KFind (if installed) to the Dolphin search menu:

The KFind can be added to the KDE context/service menus:

Image

Something like: $HOME/.local/share/kservices5/ServiceMenus/findhere.desktop
Code: Select all
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Service
X-KDE-ServiceTypes=KonqPopupMenu/Plugin,inode/directory
Actions=openFindHere;

[Desktop Action openFindHere]
Name=Open Find Here
Icon=edit-find
Exec=kfind %f

Konqueror

The Konqueror is using the KFind as default:

Maybe the Konqueror find (Ctrl+F) code could be inserted to the Dolphin ??

About Baloo

There was 'Scrap baloo?' threads:
- https://marc.info/?t=147388868100002&r=1&w=2
- https://marc.info/?t=147585407300006&r=1&w=2

and the plasma-workspace made the Baloo optional: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/128956/

Thanks for the reply, really helpful.

No "More Search Options" in Dolphin yet, but the actions make it accessible for now.
