Hi,

i use Dolphin on Xubuntu 16.04 because its the best linux file manager, but i also like the xfce desktop. but sometimes i have problem when i want to change the default app a file type should be opened or when i want to change the apps that are shown when i right klick to a file and select "open with ...". there is a file "mimeapps.list" in ~/.local/share/applications/ but changing settings here has not the right effect in dolphin.

so how can i change that in dolphin? right click and settings works SOMETIMES. is there a text file that i can edit?

Your Dolphin/KDE Frameworks version ?

With the older versions: Bug 354179 - File associations cannot be changed if already defined in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/mimeapps.list - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=354179

in comment #6 a user said that the path should be

Code: Select all
$HOME/.config/$desktop-mimeapps.list

what does "$desktop" mean?

a workaround is to create a symlink from ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list to ~/.config/mimeapps.list - without "$desktop".

i also have an other problem:

i have a lot of files that contain only text but have different extentions. i can't change the default app only for one extention, its changed for all files that contains "text". a example. i have files with the extention 'txt' and with the extention 'idx'. idx (together with a *.sub file) is a vobsub subtitle file. idx contains timestamps, the subtitles are stored in the sub file. when i change the default app for the extention 'txt' to kate, kate is also the default app for 'idx'. when i change it for 'idx' to the subtitle tool bdsup2sub now its also the default app for 'txt' (and other file types that only contain text).

how can i change this?
