Hello,
for a couple of weeks now, Dolphin has been freezing upon startup. It is totally unresponsive for about 30 seconds, so it looks like some sort of timeout. Possibly this is related: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=124655&p=328367 I don't even know how to troubleshoot this, any advice? |

After last update, Dolphin appears to be completely unusable here. It has a response time of > 30 sec for Anything, and > 1 min for startup. Archlinux.

I recently installed KDE neon from fresh on my wife's laptop, and she complains about the same problem.
Interestingly, when invoking Dolphin from the command line, I get to see this on my machine:
Then follows the 30-second delay during which Dolphin is unresponsive. Then, as soon as it is ready for user interaction, it outputs this to stdout:
This adds to my suspicion that there is some sort of timeout while waiting for a network response. I recorded the output of `sudo ps aux` while Dolphin hang and after it became responsive again, then diff'ed the outputs. Dolphin hangs with:
When issued on the command line, this command hangs as well. So it is not a Dolphin problem per se, but a Samba problem (I have Samba servers on the laptops for internal file sharing). From here it gets cloudy. I was able to solve the problem by commenting out the line `interfaces` in `/etc/samba/smb.conf`, followed by `sudo systemctl restart smbd`. I post this here for others to read and either solve their problem directly or get inspiration for troubleshooting such an issue. |
