Spring-loading folders in Dolphin

Sun Apr 05, 2020 12:30 pm
Hello everyone. I've got a question about Dolphin.
Back when Plasma 5.10 was released, there was a new feature introduced which allows files to be dragged on spring-loading folders as you hover on them.
There was even a nice blog post about it with a gif highlighting the feature: https://blogs.kde.org/2017/01/31/plasma-510-spring-loading-folder-view-performance-work
In the post there's written "It's a well-known feature from Dolphin, of course, and now also supported in Plasma's other major file browsing interface." but I never managed to find a way to enable it within Dolphin. The only navigation setting is one that allows folders to open automatically as you hover on them while dragging files, but it's fundamentally different since you're leaving the folder you've started dragging files from, forcing you to backtrack after dropping the files in the desired folder.
Did I miss something and there's a way to enable it somewhere? I think it would be a really nice option to have. It's certainly useful on the desktop, but I think that most people sort the majority of their files within Dolphin, not from the desktop.
Thanks in advance!

how about using Split View? That way you do not have to backtrack anything.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Thanks for the reply!
Split view could definitely be an option, but personally I mostly use it when I'm moving files from a drive to another. When it comes to sorting files from a single folder to multiple subfolders, even if I use split view I'll still have to navigate to the subfolder on one side, move the files and then backtrack to go to another subfolder. At that point I don't think split view would save much time. The currently available option to auto-open the folder when dragging files on it would be definitely faster than that, but overall I feel that even that would still be slower than having the spring-loaded option available. I take it that I didn't miss the option to enable it somewhere? :)
