Hello,
I tried Google first, but all the threads I found did not provide a solution, so here I am. I can see changes when files or folders are created but when a folder has it's content changed, that doesn't appear until I manually refresh the directory I am in. Does anyone know why this is? I would prefer that folders are updated when in view. In my case, I have my folders sorted so that modified folders are shown first. But when the content of folders are changed, it doesn't rearrange folders automatically, I need to press F5 for that. |

Hi,
this behaviour in Dolphin I've seen when working on a network, and I'm looking into the file system of a server. This can be a server using Samba (CIFS), NFS or many other file systems as well. A NAS can also be understood as a server. These file systems can be set up in a way, that Dolphin has to ask actively for changes (using <F5>). I've never seen this on a local disk, nor on a USB stick I put in a slot of my laptop. Also in the settings of Dolphin I didn't find a possibility to prevent the update of the GUI when files are changed by using e.g. LibreOffice to change an odt file you have currently in your view. I just checked the behaviour of Dolphin by visiting my folder "Videos", additionally having opened a Konsole Window, navigated there in my "Videos" folder too and used the "touch" command, which is changing the time stamp of the file I'm touching. Dolphin immediately has updated this one file's date and time. I'm using Plasma 5.21.2, Dolphin Version 20.12.3. Please clarify where you are looking in. Regards, FreeSwFan |

I am looking at local disks.
In my example a folder where files are being downloaded into. When something new gets added to a folder, I do not see that change until I refresh my view. What should happen, with my sorting I mentioned earlier, is that the most recently modified folder (or file) should be shown first. |

Folder rearrangement is not instantaneous, never was, and that is not a bug. Just clicking somewhere on the folder list will trigger the rearrangement, no need to refresh.
New files and newly added folders do show immediately if you are in the folder those are added to, but of course only if it is the active view.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I disagree. Dolphin does not add files instantaneously all the time. I still have to figure out when it does and when it does not. There is definitely a cashing bug somwhwere. |

Indeed. Sometimes I freshly open my Dolphin (which has a few tabs, among them the Downloads folder) and in the Downloads folder I don't see the just downloaded file until I manually press F5. Sometimes it shows the new content straight away, other times it does not. |

Happens to me as well. Dolphin doesn't automatically update my Downloads folder when files appear there. It confuses me and it takes me some time to understand where are my files until I remember again that Dolphin has this limitation. Tried to search for a corresponding option in the settings, but nothing is there.
