![]() 1) Lets say I jump to a folder using the bookmarks on the left ![]() ?? How do I move to the parent folder with one click ?? 2) I searched for a file including subdirectories ![]() ?? How can I open the folder containing the file found ?? I'm sure its a small thing, but its a recurring annoyance for me. |

1) add the "up" arrow to your toolbar: settings -> configure toolbar -> etc .........
2) interesting, no idea - I'd right click -> copy path -> close the search -> paste the path in the address bar -> remove the file name -> hit enter, which is way to much work. I think you'd need to create a service menu to do this using "dolphin --select", the copy path service menu will show you how to get the full path of the file |

I could add the folder up to the taskbar. So Question 1 is solved.
But google01103's solution to Question 2 doesn't seem very ergonomic ^^ I guess you have to go through the file properties to get the path. I don't see a "copy path" in the contact menu. |

Installing "copy path" is not necessary anymore. You can simply right-click "Copy". Anymore, because it must have been changed in 4.8. I remember that right-click → Copy in 4.7.4 got me something that started with "nepomukquery" and was completely unusable (from user's point of view). But if you want, you can create "copy containing directory path" action. That would need helper script, though, as .desktop files are unable to command substitution. You can also use Nepoogle for searching, as it's developer says it does support "Open containing folder" action.

OK, so let us conclude that vanilla Dolphin does not offer any workflow to quickly move or find out the containing folder of search results.
Is there a special rational behind it or thats just the way it is? Here is, btw, a Windows 7 search result: http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/407/win7search.png You cannot move to the directory directly (also annoying in my opinion), but you can at least see the directory. I am just wondering (and maybe this had been discussed before) if it wouldn't be possible to have an additional context menu for search results? If you right click on a search result you get the option "Open containing folder". |

RMB on file -> Open Path in New Tab. For path information: 1. View -> Adjust View Properties -> Additional Information -> Path or/and 2. Status bar will show path on mouse over. Ad 1) You can also press ALT+Up Arrow. |

Here (4.8.4 on Debian) it does not work. When I click "Open Path in New Tab" on file, KDE will indeed open new tab, but also open file in default app. When I click that tab (it shows path to file, not directory), it will try to open file again.
