I have installed ntfsprogs, ntfs-config, ntfs-3g, but whenever I copy something from Kubuntu 12.04 to a ntfs partition or usb memory, y can't open it on Windows (it says the file is either on a location that is not avaivable or doesn't exist. With Kubuntu, I checked the files I copied on ntfs system and all of them have forbidden read/write for others users and group. Only owner can read/write. The thing is that on Kubuntu, those files haver read/write permissions for owner and group. Even files I create or download on kubuntu can't be opened on a ntfs drive, because they end up with forbidden r/w permissions except for owner. I tried to change the permissions but they don't. I change them, accept, but when I check the permission again, the are still the same. I have never experienced this, My last important update was the kernel 3.2.0-30-generic.
Using Dolphin 2.0 on KDE 4.8.4
Any help is appreciated.

Can you please check the mounting options?
This can be done by running 'mount'.

Okay, comparing that with the mount line generated for me by SUSE shows quite a few differences.
You may wish to try adding some of the options present on my system.

The most likely relevant one is default_permissions I guess.
Code: Select all
/dev/sda2 on /windows/C type fuseblk (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,user_id=0,group_id=0,default_permissions,allow_other,blksize=4096)

Thank you for your answer but, how do I do this?

This will likely be controlled by a line in /etc/fstab. I suggest you ask on your distributions forum regarding this if you are not comfortable adjusting this file.
