Can drive links on the sysinfo:/ page be opened in Dolphin?

I have a rather special conflict between Konqueror and Dolphin. Basically, I only use Dolphin as my file browser and file manager. However, my distribution (openSUSE) has a page called sysinfo:/ which I like using because it's a lot like My Computer in Windows, and offers quick access to my drives as well as useful information. The package appears to be called kio_sysinfo. For SUSE it looks like this:

Problem is that from what I understand, that's a html page generated by the system. In any case, only Konqueror can view it, not Dolphin. Now when I click the links to the upper-right pointing to hard drives and mounted partitions, I would like for a Dolphin window to open up and take me there. But since the sysinfo page is opened in Konqueror, clicking it will take me there in Konqueror instead.

Only option I see is assigning that type of link to open with Dolphin. I already tried, and got a message from Dolphin that "There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device (inode/blockdevice)" asking me if I wish to install one. When hovering the cursor over my Linux partition on that page in Konqueror, the URL displayed is "file:///dev/sdb3 block device".

Is there any way to make drive links in the sysinfo:/ page open with Dolphin instead of Konqueror?

As a workaround, you should be able to right click on the link and select Open With > Dolphin.

Already tried that, and it causes the error I mentioned. Dolphin complains that "There is no application installed that can open files of the type block device (inode/blockdevice)". If it worked I could probably assign this type of link to Dolphin permanently and the issue would be solved.

If you "Copy the address" and paste this into the Konqueror address bar, what does it read? Konqueror cannot open block devices either, so something weird must be happening here...

The result is actually weird. I tested with the drive sda5; If I just click it, the same Konqueror window takes me to the proper drive (/windows/E). But if I write the URL in its address bar (which is file:///dev/sda5) it brings up the window asking to choose what to open it with. If I select Konqueror there it asks the same thing again and it goes into an endless cycle. Pasting the link in Dolphin's address bar yields the error I already described.

I don't have the sysinfo:/ protocol available on my system - could you post a copy of the html code it generates please (feel free to obscure system relevant details).

I am suspecting some form of javascript or other special code may be fixing this.

I can't obtain the html code, Konqueror won't let me save the page. Would work if I could open it in FireFox, but it asks for another program to open with if I type sysinfo:/ there.

Okay, it seems this is a special page of some description then. I'm not sure it will be possible to replicate what you are after in this case unfortunately.

Yes, it's a special application that generates this page I think. If someone else is familiar with sysinfo:/ let me know. Would be nice if Dolphin had such a feature, that could list all hard drives with a bar indicating total / used / free disk space, and let me click them to go there.

I would point out that kio_sysinfo is being dropped in openSUSE as it is no longer maintained https://kdeatopensuse.wordpress.com/201 ... nfocenter/

That is sad and wrong :( But I'll get used to it I guess, since kinfocenter seems useful and it's better than nothing. I wonder if you can still see hard drives there and click them to open in Dolphin. Also if the "My Computer" entry will still exist in openSUSE 12.3 with this change.

It is a bit worrying that some important applications can become unmaintained and therefore have to be removed, although people might still be using them. Just hope this doesn't risk happening too often. eg: If the Dolphin development team ever disappears, Dolphin will have to be removed from KDE (just a random example, this likely won't happen).
