Hello mates,
I setup a HDD to test/tray different Linux, hence different partitions are located on this HDD=/dev/sde... Now, each time I boot/login change the arrangment of the partitions in the file-manager and make me confusing. Also recognize differences under differents file-managers e.g. "Dolphin", "Nautilus", see links of pictures: Dolphin: http://i.imgur.com/8GjJl.png Nautilus: http://i.imgur.com/SLMYk.png I don't know on which basis the partitions are arranged! My intention is to arrange the partitions on "/dev/sd..."-basis. Is this possible? and how to? I can also imagine to arrange the partitions in aphabetical "label-sequence" or by self defined "UUID" or "Kpart-sequence", anyway an order/sequence that remain constant by each boot/login. Thanks in advance and best regards. Arny |

The order is likely the order they get enumerated by UDev/UDisks. Not sure if it is possible to change that immediately, but you could ask for Dolphin to perform some form of sorting so that it is always consistent.

Hi & thanks bcooksley , sorry for late answering.
Just check with "udisks --dump" and the succession in "Dolphin" is different than UDisks. However, in my machine are (maybe) to much drives, I don't care about other devices (that have only one partition on it) but one having 10 partitions for different Linux-OS's "/dev/sde1-15" is my main purpose for consistent succession. Is in Linux generally the possibility to setup a script/fstab/etc. or similar giving File-Managers (all kind= Dolphin/Nautilus/etc.) instruction to succede all partitions according to "sd...-name/definition"? How to convince Dolphin to execute a sorting? Thanks again. Arny |

To customise how Dolphin sorts the disks will require changes to the source code unfortunately - it is hardcoded behaviour and as such cannot be changed.

this issue is not only in dolphin but also in konqueror, nautilus, etc. I mean is not present somewere a general linux-file that can modify the behavior of file.managers? |

Dolphin and Konqueror effectively share a extremely large portion of the file management code, so that is not surprising.
As for Nautilus also being affected - this confirms my suspicion that UDisks is at fault here. I am not aware of any setting or other similar change one could make to ensure UDisks sorted the list of disks it returns.
