Changed View Behavior with Dolphin

Fri Mar 15, 2013 5:10 pm
Hi, I am using Linux 3.4.33-2.24-desktop x86_64 on System: openSUSE 12.2 (x86_64) with KDE: 4.8.5 (4.8.5) "release 2".

My preferred view on Dolphin has been "compact" because this enabled me to see a reasonable amount of information when I split the screen. If I use "details" view and split the screen, then the size and date information is retained at the expense of the ends of the file names which are truncated and unfortunately this is where the info I most need is given.

Having just a few days ago switched to openSUSE12.2 and done an online update I have found that the "compact" view behaviour has changed and instead of being able to scroll down to see the bottom of a long list of files and directories, a new column has been started at the top right hand edge of the window. I have no idea if this is intended but I certainly would like to have the option to revert to the previous behavior.
As it is now, Dolphin is becoming almost useless for my purposes. Please can somebody help me sort this out.
Regards,

this may work for you - in detail mode try changing column width from automatic to custom then adjust the width and split

right click a column header -> check custom column widths

I don't quite understand what the problem is. Before KDE 4.8, there was no "Compact" view in Dolphin. You could tweak the "Icons View" to mostly look like what "Compact" is today, but I don't understand what behaviour change you are talking about.

If you don't want multiple columns, "Details" should be fine for you.
