As the title says, the menu item "Compare Files" is greyed out here and I cannot get it to work.
What I tried: - Select two text-files in the current view - Select one text-file in each split view Also is there a compare folder functionality? Which would just give me a list of the files, ie.: a only in left folder b only in right folder c in both folders (Ideally this would be displayed as a table, so you don't actually need the description.) |

did compare option ever work?
for folder comparison I use komparator4 (you may need to compile it) it will give you what you want but in tabs service menus options (as alternatives to Dolphin's compare) on apps-kde.org for file & folder comparisons: - meld menu (probably requires meld) - kdiff3 dir comparison (reqires kdiff3) |

You mean on my system or in general? I don't know about the latter and on my system this is also the first time I tried. hmm, only kdiff is available here in my distro, I will give it a try. Thanks. |

The "Compare files" action should always be enabled provided that exactly two files are selected (no matter if two files in one view or one in each split view), and Kompare is installed.

Ah, thanks! I tried with pacman -Sy kompare and that didn't found anything. And it works now! |

Kompare works well with Dolphin - but the best way of selecting files/directories seems to be using the RH button. Once that is done "Compare Files" becomes un-greyed.
Kdiff3 is also good but slightly more hard work: Pluses: it will compare 3 rather than 2 files/Directories Minuses: The information supplied & the ease of using thereof is much better in Kompare If your distro does not appear to offer one or the other, try: http://pkgs.org/ for Deb or RPM or http://rpm.pbone.net/ for RPM Hope this helps dmk |
