Hello!
This is my first post here. I use KDE 4.11 Beta 2 (Kubuntu 13.04) and I've been trying to connect via ftp to my web folder on the university server. However I get an error message.
Is it even possible to be done with dolphin? http://www.noc.uoa.gr/diadiktyakes-yphresies/diadiktyakoi-topoi/proswpikes-istoselides/windows-7-vista-xp.html English translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=el&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.noc.uoa.gr%2Fdiadiktyakes-yphresies%2Fdiadiktyakoi-topoi%2Fproswpikes-istoselides%2Fwindows-7-vista-xp.html This is the instructions page for Windows, it's in greek but I post it for the settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! |

Accessing FTP servers with Dolphin is possible, but it seems that there is some problem either with the FTP server or with the installation on your system. The error message comes from the 'kioslave' (a small helper application that provides the FTP access), but unfortenately, I don't know what the problem is.
I guess that you see the same problem when entering the FTP URL in the location bar of the "Open File" dialog in other KDE applications? |

It would appear that the FTP support in KIO is lacking support for TLS based authentication. Not much you can do in this case unfortunately (i've never seen it used myself).
If you need a open source alternative, you could try Filezilla instead.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't have time to try again and, indeed, I use Filezilla for now. It would be nice if dolphin integrated the feature in future, though.
