Hi.

I use the smb kio slave to mount remote shares in Dolphin. It works great. But I wonder if the actual mounted files and directories can be found anywhere in the physical file system or is the mount only visible from within Dolphin?

Regards, Micke.

In that case, nothing is mounted at all.
The smb kio slave copies the files to /tmp/kde-$USER/ and back on the fly.

If you're asking because you want to access the files from the command line or similar, it would be better to really mount the share.
Code: Select all
sudo mount //HOST/SHARE mountpoint -o username=username,password=password

Or have a look at smb4k which is a KDE program especially designed for browsing and mounting shares.

Just adding, it's not only visible within dolphin but from any KDE app. There's no real mounting going on though. There have been multiple attempts to mount KIO-provided resources, but none of them is quite finished I fear.

I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.
