Hi,
is there a way in dolphin to open a console on a smb directory? This works for me on local directory but on samba shared directory the console (F4) opens on my home directory. In addition on samba shared I do not have the option "open console there" on right clik. Am I missing somekind of module/setting? Thanks |

I'm not really familiar with smb - can you actually "open a console on a smb directory" anywhere (i.e., from outside Dolphin, maybe with the Konsole application)? I'm not sure if the smb protocol allows something like that at all.

If you are accessing the Samba share using a smb:// URL in Dolphin then this won't be possible - as shells and non-KDE applications do not support KIO, which is required to access smb:// URLs.

Bad news ... they have a very nice way to do it in lubuntu with pcmanfm.
Where could i put it on the development wish of dolphin? Thanks |

just to make sure I am not misunderstood : my goal is not to use pcmanfm in kde but to do the same thing with dolphin in kde I was use to do in lubuntu with pcmanfm
indeed in pcmanfm the way to access was "smb://" but I could leave with whatever way dolphin access a samba share ![]() |

To fix this would require the revival and integration of KIO-Fuse support, which isn't supported by the maintainers of KIO at this time for various reasons (it could lead to application deadlocks for instance).

does it mean, no realistic point to put it on wish list?

It is on the wishlist already: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75324 If FUSE support was added to KIO, making use of that in Dolphin's Terminal Panel should be rather straightforward. |

Thanks for pointing this!
Basically I have 2 options: 1 - focus on gvfs => which probably means drop dolphin/konqueror if I want file management integration 2 - developp kiofuse myself ![]() Any hope to get a combo dolphin/gvfs plugin? |

Do you mean that Dolphin's Terminal Panel should try to "cd" to the gvfs-mounted folder for the smb URL? Unfortunately, I don't see how that could be done in a reasonable way. |

Yep that would be the idea. I do not know the possibility in dolphin but as long as you can:
- get the information of smb address/server from dolphin - call command line tool from a script ( in this case gvfs) - call the internal console and putting the local gvfs mount as parameter Should be possible |

Integration with smb4k is also another possibility to investigate.

Hey Team, I also just started using KDE from years of GNOME and this is a huge one for me -
The integration with SMB in gnome allowed me to navigate smb shares that I book marked in the file browser from any of my Applications... Within gnome you can navigate the connected smb shares from the terminal - this has become a way of life for me for a variety of tasks. It baffles me that no one in the KDE community would ever want to do this with Konsole. Am I missing something? |
