In dolphin it is possible to add a "Compare Files" button to the toolbar menu, which compares two files in "kompare." How do you add this in Konqueror?

I am using KDE 4.12.3. Many thanks!

If you right click on the toolbar > Configure Toolbars, and look under the "Toolbar" dropdown, does the "Compare Files" option appear under any of those if you select each one in turn?

It does not appear when I do this for Konqueror (there are several toolbars; I try all of them and none have "Compare Files"). However, Dolphin does have the option in its toolbar so the functionality is there. For some reason Konqueror is not picking it up, however.

It is possible that this is Dolphin specific functionality which can't be offered in Konqueror for certain reasons.
I've moved this topic to the Dolphin forum so it's developers can comment on what may be the cause of this - usually the functionality is fully shared between them.

"Compare Files" is Dolphin-specific.

Dolphin and the DolphinPart, which is used in Konqueror, only share the DolphinView. This is the thing between the URL bar and the status bar that shows the files inside the current directory.

The "Compare Files" action must be aware of the selected files in all visible views (note that you can compare two files in one view, or one file in each of two split views). Therefore, the code handling this action must know how view splitting works, and splitting views is handled in a completely different way in Konqueror and Dolphin. It is impossible to implement the "Compare Files" action it in such a way that the same code can be used for both applications.

I see. This is disappointing as it is a very useful feature. Thanks for the info.

Is it possible to add "Compare Files" to the Konqueror context menu when right-clicking on two selected text files? Or does that run into the same problems as adding it to the toolbar?

You could install and use KDiff3:
http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/

This includes a service menu plugin for Dolphin AND Konqueror.

Nice. Not as pretty as Kompare but it looks more functional. Thanks for the tip!
