I have been there before but now I have this problem again:

Searching for a filename (or part of a filename) within my home folder via dolphins builtin file name search (not the content) gives me files and folders all over my whole system. So I figure it doesn't work... maybe I miss something ... I pressed on "search for "filename" and "from here (piedro)"...

AT least the search finds something but doesn't seem to filter...

Is there anything I can do to fix that behaviour and have a working dolphin search for once?

It's KDE 4.13 on ARch 3.14.1

thx for reading, I'd really appreciate some help here,
with best regards,

Do you have any symlinks within your home directory which lead outside it, or is the search totally indiscriminate and searching in system directories (like /usr/share for instance - ie. totally disregarding the location filter)?

Ok, I checked. no symlinks.

What I found is that it is working for documents, it is not working for configuration files.
For example searching for "baloo" or "baloo.*" doesn't find "baloofilerc". Searching for "baloofilerc" doesn't find it either.

So I guess it only works on indexed files?
From another thread I've been under the impression that filenamesearch doesn't use indexing (why should it) but still I do not find these files.

thx for reading,

indexing excludes hidden files and folders by default, you may be able to explicitly add them to the search using the kcm "desktop search advanced" or editing the baloo rc file

gonna guess the search function in Dolphin by default also excludes hidden files, if you start your search in ~/.kde[4] Dolphin's search will find your config files

have you tried Kfind? option to search hidden files, no access to baloo or it's index though
