Add "recent" to places

Sat Sep 06, 2014 9:12 pm
I have the Recently Accessed part on my Places: https://i.imgur.com/mBMyx07.png

But it just doesn't function! when i click on any Today, Yesterday, This Month etc. it keeps showing my Home directory just have no effect, doesn't show anything (i.e. dummy buttons) . Whereas you can see that lancelot is actually keeping track of my recent files: https://i.imgur.com/LQdzhFt.png

How can i add a Recent/Recently used files to my] Dolphin's Places panel?

more info might be helpful

- version of KDE?
- did it ever work?
- does it work for a new user?

- 4.14.0 (also: i run debian testing, "uname -a" gives: Linux rig 3.14-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.14.15-2 (2014-08-09) x86_64 GNU/Linux)
- not that i can remember. it might have worked in my previous debian installation a year ago, but not with this one.
- i am the only user. so i haven't tried for another/new user.

i'm guessing maybe i might lack a package for this to work as i did a netinstall.

You need to have desktop search enabled for this to work, and you the corresponding folders must have been indexed.

So check Systemsettings->Desktop Search.
If you don't have that you miss a package. Check that baloo is installed, and maybe baloo-file if it exists (I'm not sure about how the packages are split in Debian).

Debian apparently had problems with the Baloo packaging, but it should work now:

Before 4.13 Nepomuk was used for this, but Nepomuk has been replaced with Baloo now.

yes,
Code: Select all
sudo aptitude install baloo
solved it. (baloo is in testing repos now)
