Backing up preferences

Sat Oct 25, 2014 10:16 am
Each time I re-install Kubuntu, which is every six months, I always have to re-add my 20+ bookmarks to various SFTP sites in the left side boomark bar. I also have to change the view settings so that all folders use the same properties, then switch to detailed list view, add the Type column and order my folders and files by type.

Is there any way I can export these settings, from a configuration file or similar, so that I can just run a script each time I re-install my system?

do you recreate your ~/home every time you re-install?

by bookmarks I assume you mean places which are in ~/.local/share/user-places.xbel

dolphin files and folders are ~/.kde/share/config/dolphinrc and ~/.kde/share/apps/dolphin*

Thank you, ~/.local/share/user-places.xbel was the file I was looking for. When I re-install, I always backup my home folder, but I never keep anything hidden, except ~/.ssh/. In the future, I will make sure to keep ~/.local/share/user-places.xbel as well.
