Better way to show date

Tue Apr 14, 2015 4:42 pm
I find it hard to know what the real file date (modification) time is for my files.

I usually have to go into a shell and do a vdir or ls -l.

I was wondering if it was possible to change the panel and what is displayed in it.

At here, the Dolphin Information panel (right click it) has an option to show the modification date.

The Dolphin tooltip is also showing the modification date. Same settings as with the Information panel.

Right. I'm sorry I didn't see it before myself. Out of every possible option I did not right click on the panel itself? I thought such an easy to way thing would not be the most acceptable way of changing something long-lasting....

I have a trouble with the date because the panel is showing these things too small. That is fine for nonsensical things such as Tag Rating or Comment, but for those other things I want a higher display. I am sure there is not a way to modify the panel? But I may be mistaken in that.

I really feel such things as regular file stats should not be mixed up with metadata. They are different beasts, but that is just my opinion.

Perhaps I may be allowed to ask a small question here?

Where are comments for files saved, and does it stay with the file if you move it around? What is the idea behind those comments? I really feel I would like to have more metadata for my files but thus far I haven't found anything that would work for me...

I think that you should start a new topic ;) but here ( http://vhanda.in/blog/ ) you could find some answers - A recent topic : http://vhanda.in/blog/2015/03/the-seman ... p-is-dead/

With KDE SC 4.12, which was the last release with Nepomuk. It provided Desktop Search. This included File Search, Emails, and Contacts.

It provided a way for users to store tags, ratings and comments...

Where are are now?

File tags, ratings and comments are stored in the file system as extended attributes...

Thanks, I'll read it later.

Semantic search or at least semantic metadata has always been hard. It is a concept that has to marry your sense of belonging to this world, in the sense that it has to agree with what you want to do and what you want to get from this system.

I have not yet met something that met me, in the sense that I haven't found something that I liked :P.

Basically I've always been designing my own thing (in my own mind) and the things that other people introduce are always a hindrance and never a help. I usually turn all indexing features off, everywhere. I never use that ****. I want control.

In MS Windows, sometimes a process that does indexing can make your harddisk rattle like it is dying of a tough breath. I don't want that stuff, I want foremost to be me computer be under my control.

But nowadays I just want to see Date and Modification and Permissions information, because I'm lost with out it. And it is not even doing any indexing :P.
