Plasma 5, Dolphin cannot create new file

I'm using dolphin on plasma 5 desktop on OpenSUSE.
When I try to create a new file by selecting Create New > Text File from the context menu, the following error is presented to me: "The file or folder ../../../templates/.source/TextFile.txt does not exist.".
I assume I made a mistake during installation of the plasma 5 desktop. Are you aware of a way to fix this without setting up the desktop from scratch?

Using YaST I can see that kdebase4-libkonq and libkonq5 are installed. So in my case re-install libkonq5?

yes - according to Yast that package kde-baseapp5-libkonq provides the missing file

Ok, I can see such a file under /usr/share/kde4/templates/.source/, but apparently it is not found.
In yast I find no package called kde-baseapp5-libkonq.
I'm using version 15.04.2-1.3 of dolphin and kdebase4-libkonq from http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_13.2/.

ahh - that package is in the wolfie323 repo which is for being able to run KDE4 and 5 in parallel and since you probably are exclusively using the frameworks5 repo you don't/wouldn't have it

not sure your problem because I don't have a pure KDE 5 install

could you create a new user and test the "create new" functionality?

Right. kde-baseapps5 has not been released yet.

But the package kdebase4-libkonq from KDE:Applications does install those template files to the Plasma5 location (/usr/share/templates/) as well.
So please check that that package really comes from KDE:Applications, not from the standard repos.

OTOH, a KF5 based dolphin has not been released yet either. So you are probably still using the KDE4 version anyway.
I just tried, and see the same error here (in KDE4). Seems to be a packaging problem, those files are just empty. I will investigate...

As a workaround, you could install kdebase4-libkonq from the standard repo for now. As dolphin is still KDE4 based, this will work then. But "Create New" will not work in the folderview applet, unless you copy/symlink /usr/share/kde4/templates/ to /usr/share/templates/ yourself.

PS: Sorry, actually the files are not empty. Only TextFile.txt is (on purpose), that confused me a bit...
The problem seems to be that KDE(4) doesn't like those symlinks (the files are installed to /usr/share/templates/, and symlinks for KDE4 applications are created in /usr/share/kde4/templates/).

I created a submit request with a (hopefully) fixed package to KDE:Applications.
When that gets accepted, this should work again after the next update.

If you don't want to wait (I would expect it to be in the repo some time tomorrow), you can install kdebase4-libkonq from here meanwhile:

FYI, this is fixed in KDE:Applications meanwhile, so just update your system... ;)

I'm still lacking templates in Plasma 5.4.1 on Kubuntu 15.10 (daily image as of 23 September). It only shows Libreoffice stuff and "Link to device" which is empty.

Install http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/libkonq5-templates
In doubt, run kbuildsycoca5 afterwards.
