Hello!
If I enable preview for PDF files I get thumbnails for PDF files in every view dolphin creates. So I turned it off because while it is nice to see a glimpse of file content in the "symbol" or "compact" view I really prefer to have icons indicating the file type in "details" view. How can I get at least a preview in the side pane or another preview to get a quick look at whats in the file before firing up an okular window? (similar to Apple's "quickview" function for example... ) Is there a way to get a "preview on hover over"-effect? Thx for any help, piedro |

Enable previews for PDF files in Dolphin's settings->General->Previews, and you'll get a preview in the "Informations" sidebar when you hover over a PDF file or select it.
Enable "Show tooltips" in Dolphin's settings->General->Behavior, and you'll get a tooltip with informations about the file when you hover over it. If previews are enabled for the specific filetype (see above), this will contain a preview too. |

Thx for your help!
The previews work nicely, I know that and use it for image files. But my issue is that I do not want the file type icons for text, office and pdf files replaced by those tiny little preview thumbnails. Still I'd like a preview in the information side pane and/or as a mouse over effect... in short: - standard icons (no preview thumbnails) in the file/folder list - preview in the information area and as mouse over effect Otherwise a folder full of odt and pdf text documents (like invoices) will just show many undistinguishable white rectangular thumbnails. Any ideas? thx, piedro |

If you disable previews in general (via the toolbar button or the menu entry in "View"), but enable the preview for PDF files in the place I mentioned, you will get previews for PDF files in the informations side bar and the tooltips, but not the icons. At least that's how it works here with dolphin 15.04.3. |
