Kipi doesn't write rating in image file

If I rate a jgp-image within dolphin or gwenview, the value is stored somewhere outside the image. Ratings done in gwenview will be shown in dolphin. But when I rename or copy the image, the rating is getting lost. When I write a rating with exiftool, it will not shown in dolphin or gwenview. That's both poor for me.

Code: Select all
christian@kubuntu-pc:~/Bilder/tmp/a$ exiftool -rating=4 a.jpg

Is there a way to read/write the rating of an image file with dolphin or gwenview instead of using the kipi storage?

The exif rate is not same as the KDE rate.

Could you tell your KDE version ?

Depending of KDE version the 'rating' is saved to

The older systems: https://userbase.kde.org/Dolphin/File_Management
The information panel offers the possibility to rate files, add a comment or tag a file. This is one of the interfaces to the semantic Desktop Nepomuk which provides the advantages of the semantic web for the desktop.

The Nepomuk has been later replaced by the Baloo: https://community.kde.org/Baloo

The new way is to save the 'rate' to the 'extended attributes': http://vhanda.in/blog/2015/03/the-seman ... p-is-dead/

There are slight problems with the 'rate' - or to see it: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339863

You could write a script to move the 'rate' information between the different storages.
