I know you can add entries to the context menu using service menus, but is it also possible to somehow add entries to the popup menu you get when you drag and drop files from one location to another?

no idea but you can add custom destinations to the "copy to" & "move to" right click menu by editing ~/.kde[4]/chare/config/dolphinrc, the [kuick copy] and [kuick-move] sections

Probably not (w/o altering the code, oc) - what would you add there itfp?

Sorry, are you sure that's the path? I've found ~/.config/dolphinrc and ~/.kde4/share/config/dolphinrc, but there are no such sections (not even quick copy) in either of them. Am I supposed to add them? Looking at those menus though, it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for.
Stuff like "copy with rsync" or any other standalone program, passing the files currently being dragged as well as the destination path as input. Something to add further functionality like verify on copy/move, management of concurrent copy jobs to/from the same disk, actually use btrfs's CoW system etc. Basically what I'd add to kio if I had the knowledge, as I suggested here but, via a standalone program. |

the [kuick-copy] section is generated when you right click -> copy to (or move to), it adds the folder you selected. note: the rc file is not update iirc until Dolphin is closed
