Firefox does not use KDialog

Fri Oct 28, 2016 3:24 pm
Hello,
I use LinuxMint 17.3 with KDE desktop 4.13.2. My most-used browser is Firefox (v 49) I have set dowload file to: "ask me every time"
When I download -or upload- a file Firefox comes up with a window which should give me the option to navigate to a destination. Inside this window both mouse and keyboard behave erratically. It is impossible to navigate my filesystem from there.
Using Chromium on the same platform brings up KDialog with no problem at all.
Why does Firefox not come up with KDialog??
I posted this question on the Mozilla helpforum but only got a reply referring me to KDE for a solution
Thanks for any suggestion

Thanks you Rog131 for your suggestions. It does not seem that Mozilla ever picked up on the bugreport. I have now upgraded to Mint 18 Sarah. Here Firefox 49 still has the same erratic behaviour

You can install firefox-plasma by adding the plasmazilla ppa.
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:plasmazilla/releases && sudo apt update && sudo apt install firefox-plasma

This will give you the filepicker (I think) you are looking for.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I pasted the commandline into Konsole
the output read as follows:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
firefox-plasma : Depends: firefox (= 1000~50.0+build2-0+8+build38) but 50.0+linuxmint1+serena is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I removed Firefox from my system and made shure to install firefox serena from the linuxmint software installer. Unfortunately problem remains.
My knowledge of Linux is insufficient to know what to do next

Hello there!

Same problem here, all of the sudden.

When I open any file, dolphin won't work anymore. It is pretty annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: sorry guys, I don't know how this post ended up here. I swear to god I was in the correct thread... mysterious things happen in kde world

Kreddit: Firefox v64 can now use the KDE file selection dialog when run with GTK_USE_PORTAL=1 - https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/a ... selection/

Installing the xdg-desktop-portal and the xdg-desktop-portal-kde and starting the Firefox with the 'GTK_USE_PORTAL=1'. The Firefox (64.0) is using the KDE file dialog:
