Running Dolphin 16.08.3
I have a folder with multiple (hundreds) subfolders. When I open a subfolder and move up (Using Alt-Up arrow or Alt-Left arrow) shortcuts, I return to the parent folder BUT the focus is NOT on the folder I had opened earlier. So, I will have to manually go back to that folder again. Is there a way to automate this? I open folder150. When I go back or up, folder150 is selected. FWIW, Gnome Files does this as I am describing it.

I agree that would be a nice feature to have. You might request it in the Brainstorm forum, or submit it directly to bugs.kde.org.
A couple of workarounds that I use, depending on the situation: * Open the folder in a new tab and close the tab when you're done * Use the Details view with the Expandable folders option set) expand and collapse the folders
