Whenever I enter
into the address bar, I get the error message "Invalid protocol". Kio itself seems to be working since the following command lists all files in the directory as expected:
I am using the current version of Dolphin shipped by Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, that is Dolphin 15.12.3 / KDE 5.18.0 / Qt 5.5.1. Strangely, on another computer with the same version of Ubuntu / Dolphin the problem does not occur. |

Very strange. Perhaps something in the dolphinrc files?

Very strange indeed.
I can reproduce the error in the following way with a fresh installation of dolphin: 1. Download the latest Ubuntu 16.04 image (ubuntu-16.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso ) from http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04/. 2. Boot into live CD (in my case using VirtualBox, but that should not change things) -> "Try Ubuntu". 3. Enable the "universe" software repository under "Gear-Icon (top-right corner) -> System Settings -> Software & Updates" and reload package list after clicking "Close". 4. Start terminal via "Alt+F2 -> gnome-terminal". 5. Execute "sudo apt install dolphin kde-runtime" in terminal (the second one is for the kioclient test). 6. Execute "dolphin" in terminal, enter "fish://user@host:port/home/user/" in the address bar. 7. You should receive the error "Invalid protocol". 8. Close dolphin. 9. Execute "kioclient ls 'fish://user@host:port/home/user/'" in terminal. 10. Accept ssh key warning, enter password and cancel KWallet window. 11. You may have to repeat steps 9 and 10 once or twice when running kioclient for the first time, then you should receive a list of files in the remote directory. 12. Start dolphin again, the problem should persist. Does that eliminate the possibility of a corrupt dolphinrc file? |

Thank you very much!
Installing kio-extras solved the problem. |
