Hi,

i use dolphin on ubuntu with xfce (xubuntu). i can change the default apps and the apps that are shwn in the "open with" menu in the dolphin settings. but there is a problem with all kind of text files even the files have different extensions. lets say i have 3 files:

file.txt => a simple text file
file.srt => a file with subtitle as normal text
file.idx => a index file of vobsub (used together with a *.sub file)

all these files contains only text and i want to use different default app. but when i change the default app for one of these formats its also changed for all other text formats. i don't have this problem with images. i can use different settings for jpg and png and tiff. how can i do this with text files?

is this a problem of dolphin? can someone test it on kubuntu?

Here's how you change the default application to use with any given file type, or add a new one.:

Dolphin uses [Added Associations] in ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list. So the quick way how to change multiple file associations in Dolphin would be to copy all the lines under [Default Applications] (set with xdg-mime) and paste them to the same file with [Added Associations] before them instead.

Hope that helps!

i didn't feel like writing it all out from scratch so I used a variation of this answer -> https://askubuntu.com/questions/165618/ ... nd-line-in

You can also do that through System Settings -> File Associations. Click Add to create the new file type, then you can set up the appropriate associations for files of that type.
