The release of Dolphin 18.08 brought the possibility to start Dolphin as root user within a root session.
However, some Linux distributions based on Ubuntu, such as Kubuntu and KDE Neon, do not have a root user separate from the normal user. How do I start Dolphin as root in these distributions? AFAIK I can't open a "root" session. |

A simple fix for me without having to remember long terminal commands is to install Thunar, yes!, you get bits of the XFCE desktop but its a small price to pay as far as I'm concerned.
In Kubuntu, open the Konsole and type:
To run Thunar as root once installed (again using the Konsole), simply type:
I would like to use root in Dolphin to copy firmware files for my DVB-T2 TV stick into the /lib/firmware folder but have to use Thunar to get this done in a simple manner. It would be nice if the KDE devs had an "Open as root" option in Dolphin imo. ![]()
Running Kubuntu on two computers (one dual boot and one as single OS), were it not for gaming; I would ditch Winblows completely!.
