I have used tags in the past in Dolphin to help sort my files. I am now trying to add tags to some new files and am not able to pick a tag from the list of already created tags.
I used to be able to do that but it seems that something isn't working properly. Is there a file somewhere tat lists and stores the already created tags? Dolphin version is 17.12.3 Kubuntu 18.04 KDE Plasma version 5.12.7 Please let me know if there is any helpful information I can provide to solve this. I wanted to add a screenshot to illustrate the problem but could not figure out how to do it. |

Earlier: Tag files and search tags - viewtopic.php?f=67&t=141100
The KDE is using Baloo to index the tags and then search the Baloo database for all tags. Add/edit Tags without the Baloo database is showing only the file tags: Add/edit Tags with the Baloo database is showing all indexed tags: KDE System Settings > Search > Configure File Search KDE community wiki Baloo: https://community.kde.org/Baloo |

I have done some further reading and find that tags are stored as extended attributes in the files themselves. Baloo then performs indexing on the files to record the tags.
Here is the output for a file that has a tag created in Dolphin using getfattr -d
You can see that the tag "Mack - Concrete" has been applied to the file. Here is the output for the same file using balooshow - x
Here the Xattr Terms shows nothing. I'm not sure why balooshow is not seeing the tags, but it means that I don't have a list of already created tags in Dolphin when I try to create a new tag for a file. Is Dolphin looking at an index created by Baloo to generate the list of tags? |
