Limit size of thumbnails

Sun Feb 17, 2019 10:40 am
My ~/.cache/thumbnails directory tends to get very big. It's currently almost 8GB and I don't see any option in dolphin that would allow me to limit its size. Can this be done?
And if so in a way that's "smart" – meaning when limit is reached, it won't just stop creating new ones, but rather delete ones that were unused for a long time?

A wish: Bug 79943 - It should be possible to limit the amount of disk space used by thumbnails (.thumbnails directory) - https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=79943

At the moment the solution is in your fingers:

You could clean the whole thumbnail cache - Sweeper, Gwenview, ...

or write a "smart" script to keep the thumbnail cache at the wanted level.

Yeah, I've actually did that https://gitlab.com/halftough/thumbnail-deleter
It's quite simple, but it should be enough for what most people need.

Anyway, thank's for information.
