Hi there, recent windows convert to Kubuntu here and really enjoying it so far but I have come across a really annoying problem that is preventing me from moving over fully. I do a lot of work with pdf files and have over 15,000 of them in a folder to work with. I frequently have to do searches and to make things easier I have information stored in the “keywords” metadata section of the pdf. In windows I can view all the pf thumbnails using windows explorer and can also display the pdf tags using a COM program called pdf property extension
https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/pdfpropertyextension Not all the pdfs have metadata in them so it is very useful to be able to scroll down the list in the file manager and see what ones have missing data so I can add it. Going through every single file and right clicking properties etc would be an nightmare. Dolphin seems to have tons of fields to display in detail view for file types such as mp3 jpeg etc, but not the required pdf metadata. I looked online for alternatives and nautilus has an extension called nautilus columns that claims to do it. https://www.linuxuprising.com/2019/02/n ... adata.html Unfortunately the extension is rather old and now seem unsupported. It also only works for title and author and not keywords which I need to see. There is a possible way round this by coding the python script but that is beyond my rather basic knowledge. I thought it might be worth asking on here first if there is any way to get this working in dolphin as I prefer it to nautilus anyway and it comes as part of KDE / kubuntu rather than having to install the gnome stuff to get nautilus. Thanks for the help. |
