I'm using Dolphin in cinnamon as I prefer it the gnome file managers. The only problem I'm having with it is the default single click to open functionality.

Dolphin is version 19.04.3

If I load plasma desktop then Dolphin works as expected. If I load cinnamon it does not.

Plasma workspace global options under Workspace -> Desktop Behavior are set to "Double-click"
I have a [KDE] section in kdeglobals with SingleClick=false located @ ~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals as well as ~/.config/kdeglobals and I've copied the .kde4 folder to .kde to see if that would resolve the issue after restarting dolphin and it did not.

So at this point I'm not really sure what else to try. I've found others with the issue using dolphin in gnome and they were able to resolve by editing kdeglobals, but mine was already setup properly so I'm kind of out of ideas at this point.

When i switch between single and double click with "kcmshell5 mouse", the changes goes parallel into .config/kdeglobals and .kde/share/config/kdeglobals , so you are looking at the right place. Maybe kcmshell or the module for mouse makes some other magic unter the hood such actualise settings cache in the session ... ???

I would also check where is $XDG_CONFIG_HOME pointing to when cinnamon session is running and move/link the kdeglobals there.

Thanks for the direction there, that got me somewhere new which is great.

echo $XDG_CONFIG_HOME resulted in nothing returned, so I set XDG_CONFIG_HOME in a console manually to .kde4 folder and then launched dolphin in the konsole session. It completely lost the normal coloring but it did have double click enabled as expected.

So because I also wanted to retain the theme I tried creating a clone of kdeglobals in a .dolphin folder, and then in that I removed all the settings except SingleClick=false under [KDE] heading but that didn't work, still the same loss of theming

I confirmed if I open from konsole without setting XDG_CONFIG_HOME it opens normally with the right theming so I'm sure it is having effect

I'm going to continue playing with it a bit more.

XDG_CONFIG_HOME by default should be ~/.config, so the things which used to be under ~/.kde4/share/config should have moved under there (and other contents of ~/.kde4/share would have moved to XDG_DATA_HOME which defaults to ~/.local/share)
