Am looking for why I am not seeing Samba computers in the Dolphin Network lists on some computers.
I have three computers, two are running Debian Buster (stable), one running Debian Jessie. Each have the same shared folders set up in the same way, with the same SMB users, and essentially the same /etc/samba/ configuration files. Each computer is set up to share folders but there is no central file server on this home network. On the Jessie computer all three computers show up in the Network file display trees (Network and Shared Folders (SMB) ). On one Buster computer the computers only show up under the Network tree. On the second Buster computer nothing shows under the Network and Shared Folders (SMB) trees. On Buster-1, under the Network tree, the Jessie computer shows up with a 'globe on network' icon and only lists the computer name and its [MAC address] (in square brackets). On the Buster-1 computer, itself shows up with a 'folder with globe' icon and the name of the computer but Buster-2 does not show up. On Buster-2, nothing shows under the Network and Shared Folders (SMB) trees. The Samba configuration works since I can access each computer from each computer using the smb://@computer_name protocol and the other SMB tools work, e.g., net, smbclient, nmblookup, etc. It's just that on the Buster computers, other computers on the network don't show up under the Network and Shared Folders (SMB) trees as expected. Incidentally, Samba also works with a Windows 10 computer on the local network, although Win10 only shows up on the Jessie computer. I get that there are probably updates in Samba and/or Dolphin from Jessie to Buster. How to configure so all computers show up in all Dolphin Network lists? The smb.conf file for all the Linux machines is: [global] netbios name = <name> server string = <name> shared area workgroup = <the_same> local master = yes smb ports = 445 139 security = user map to guest = bad user guest account = smbguest load printers = no log file = /var/log/samba/samba.log max log size = 100 encrypt passwords = yes unix password sync = no preserve case = yes short preserve case = yes obey pam restrictions = no username map = /etc/samba/smbusers [shared] path = /home/shared comment = Shared Area valid users = share_member, @share_member read only = no available = yes browseable = yes writable = yes guest ok = no printable = no [public] path = /home/public comment = Public Area read only = yes available = yes browseable = yes guest ok = yes printable = no |

Hi,
I have a very similar problem. Though I tend to acccept ANY way to get access from Manjaro with KDE (acces of any kind) to the Time Capsule storage over the Airport .... Its an apple device, I already had access with Manjaro in the past, and on some windows machines it worked out the box too. Just here, I get this error message: The file or folder smb://tc855e07.local/ does not exist. But for your problem I could say you shall look for differences in SMB versions first .. .also used in your router maybe. Andre |
