I use rlcone to access remote cloud based files. Rclone uses the fuse filesystem to mount a remote directory so it is accessible locally. The problem I have is that when I try to access one of these directories, Dolphin freezes and becomes unusable. If I look at my rclone logs I can see that Dolphin is frantically attempting to access every file in the hierarchy which is a very slow operation. With anything more than a trivial set of files this becomes unusable.

I can see Dolphin has features such as generating previews and I have turned this off. What I can't seem to turn off is that Dolphin does some sort of counting every time a directory in accessed. The problem is even exacerbated as it looks like Dolphin restarts this counting every time the mount is accessed.

I researched and found several (maybe 50) posts going back years with users not being able to use Dolphin with various remote file systems. Some users asked if it would be possible to mark a mount as "remote" and thus Dolphin will treat it as a "slow" filesystem. I did not see any solutions. I understand the KDE philosophy is that it empowers uses to configure the software to work for them and this is what drew me to KDE.

Is it possible to tun this counting "feature" off so I can use Dolphin with my files? It provides little value to me yet it completely disables Dolphin. Cloud based solutions like rclone will only become more prevalent in the future so it would be nice if Dolphin can support them.

I am a new KDE user and migrating from Gnome. Previously I was using File aka Nautilus and this just worked as expected, no issues at all. I do not have any solution to this current problem however I really like KDE and would like to move into this ecosystem.
