Hi all,
New to the forum so let me know if this question needs to be improved upon. I have recently built kde plasma 5.22.3 on a gentoo 5.13.1 kernel. For the most part, everything has been pretty great. However, dolphin has been giving me quite the headache. I have searched many other posts, but nothing seems to point me in any tangible direction. I compiled dolphin 21.04.3 (via emerge) and upon starting it up, it can take anywhere from 30-60 seconds to actually render the window. The best lead I have is when using strace:
It seems to hang on a futex for ~15 seconds 3 separate times, almost as if it were in some error retry loop or something. Then it finally loads. Also, not sure if it is related - but there are various other instances where hanging is occurring within the KDE ecosystem. For instance, under system information, clicking Power Management & system information completely hangs the UI for 10s of seconds. Makes me wonder if there is some problem with device scanning going on... or something of the sort. Let me know if I can provide further information on this. |

There really is something about posting a question in a forum that leads to a self-resolution in short order.
After analyzing
I saw the messages
repeatedly. After some research, it turns out that the kernel was missing the kernel config option CONFIG_USER_NS. After enabling, rebuilding and restarting - everything is working super fast ![]() |
