I know this is not the Gnome forums but this woderful file manager called Dolphin is made for KDE (and works in Gnome), so here I am.

I have been googling the above question for about 10 hours now without luck.

It doesnt matter if one sets the default in Gnome to double-click, Dolphin still uses single-click. Editing .kde settings files doesnt seem to change it either.

For me, changing from Windows to Ubuntu, this file-manager is the best, most similar to explorer and I really would like to be able to use double-click. I have tried 6 other file managers and Dolphin is my choice.

Really hope that someone out there knows how to enable double-clicking in Dolphin in Gnome. I do not want to go back to the KDE desktop at this time.

in kde you have to change this behaviour in systemsettings, maybe you could install kcontrol4 and change it in there, but there has to be a configfile around somewhere...

GNOME settings will only affect GNOME apps. So Dolphin, being a KDE app, won't be affected by GNOME's mouse settings. It has to be done through System Settings (command-line name: systemsettings). Go to Keyboard & Mouse -> Mouse and change the setting there.

Or you can edit the ~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals (or ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals, depending on your distro's setup) file and change

Code: Select all
SingleClick=true

to

Code: Select all
SingleClick=false

Thanks for the answers guys!

Here are the results:

roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ pico ~/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals
New file.

roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ pico ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals
Options in this file but no SingleClick= to change

roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ systemsettings
The program 'systemsettings' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install systemsettings

roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ sudo apt-get install systemsettings
[alot of text goes here]
(Reading database ... 129752 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking systemsettings (from .../systemsettings_4%3a4.2.2-0ubuntu2_i386.deb) ...
Setting up systemsettings (4:4.2.2-0ubuntu2) ...
roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$

roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ systemsettings
systemsettings(9549) KServiceFactory::findServiceByDesktopPath: "findServiceByDesktopPath: not found"
systemsettings(9549) MainWindow::readMenu: "" Looking for children in ' "" '
This brings up an empty grey window only.

bash: kcontrol4: command not found
roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$ sudo apt-get install kcontrol4
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
roger@NT-SERVER-5:~$

Unfortunally none seems to solve the above problem. Could I have some more things to try please? :-D

Update:

After a reboot "systemsettings" now gives me a few options in the window that pops up:

Apperance, Notifications, About me, Default Applications, Reginal & Language, Network Settings, Sharing and Multimedia.

Under the Advanced tab: Desktop Search, File assosiations, KDE Recources and Service manager.

But I can not find anything about Keyboard & Mouse.

Config file still doesnt have a SingleClick option.

You will need to install the Mouse KCM. I do not know what the *buntu package for it is called however.

The only thing i found in Synaptic when i searched for KCM was this:

Heimdal Kerberos - KCM daemon

Heimdal is a free implementation of Kerberos 5 that aims to be
compatible with MIT Kerberos.

This package includes the KCM daemon which can hold the credentials
for all users in the system. Access control is done with Unix-like
permissions. The daemon checks the access on all operations based on
the UID and GID of the user. The tickets are renewed as long as is
permitted by the KDC's policy.

I installed it but it didnt change anything. Still not able to use doubleclick in Dolphin.

In the ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals file, look for the [KDE] group of settings (the group of lines that start with [KDE]) then add the SingleClick setting above.

You may need to install KDE Workspace to get the Mouse KCM.

Yay! the key was to add the SingleClick under the [KDE] section. Thank you all so much for helping me.

[KDE]
ShowDeleteCommand=true
SingleClick=false
