Filename Sorting

Tue Sep 22, 2009 11:31 am
Hi,
how can I enable "correct" sorting of filenames in konqueror/dolphin for KDE 4.3.1?.

My problem is the following, I have a set of sub-folders with names starting with "__" so they stay on the top places when I open the parent folder.
But in konqueror/dolphin they get sorted by the first alphabetic character.
Example:

I get this:

Alpha Folder
__Important_Folder
Test Folder

Instead of this:

__Important_Folder
Alpha Folder
Test Folder

Well, the underscore does come between the uppercase and the lowercase, so it is actually "correct"...

Sorry it isn't correct...
If I have folders like these:

aaa
aba
_aba
abb

If you suggestion is correct then the correct order would be:

aaa
aba
abb
_aba

But instead I get the first layout....

But if there was a file named ___ (3 "_"'s) it does display first giving:

___
aaa
aba
_aba
abb

and logically one would assume the second item would be _aba

Actually I think it ignores the prefix symbols ('_','[',']',etc).
So ___ (3 x _) is just interpreted has empty string which is always first.

Try removing the .directory file for the affected directory.

Sorry,
there is no .directory file.

This is a freshly created folder.

My trunk, self compiled KDE system behaves the same as marcosgildavid's screenshot.

This is not a bug in KDE, but in the underlying libraries provided by the distribution, in this case openSUSE. Please file a bug at their bugzilla, as I would say Alec's sorting is correct.

Yes, I agree, maybe its a bug on openSUSE.
I just noticied that ls in the linux console gives the same wrong results.
I'll fill a bug in Novell Bugzilla.
