can't delete file

Wed Jan 05, 2011 2:20 am
In Dolphin, when I try to move a file to the Trash, or delete it, I get the message:
The trash has reached its maximum size!
Cleanup the trash manually.

When I click on the trash icon on the left side, I get a blank screen - there doesn't appear to be anything in the trash.

I tried going into Lost and Found - both as myself and as root - and found nothing.

Can anyone help?

Do you have any external devices connected?

You might have a corrupt trash directory, try closing dolphin, then removing the ~/.local/share/Trash/ directory (make sure there are no files in there you need).

Also, you will have a hidden directory whose name starts with .Trash at the top directory of every partition (including any removable devices you have deleted files from). If deleting the directory above does not work, try finding and removing those as well (once again making sure there is nothing important in there).

Note that you may lose any custom trash setting you have set.

I have the same problem, except it can't delete file which is probably named with Asian characters, so i can't delete the Trash. It just says "cannot delete .local/share/Trash/.... i tried even manually to go to that dir but no luck. Help?

Edit : it's OK now, i don't know how, but it works now.....

Another way to fix this is to execute the following in Konsole:
Code: Select all
rm -rf ~/.local/share/Trash

I removed local Trash and pen drive .Trash-1000 (it gets recreated). It did not help. I still get the message maximum capacity reached please empty. This is insane >:(

Have you checked the free capacity of all disk(s) on your system?

Also, make sure your user owns ~/.local and ~/.local/share to ensure this is not a permission issue.
