Search in Dolphin 4.6.2

Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:06 pm
Ctrl-f in Dolphin now presents a search field which has a number of options to narrow/expand the scope of the search.

However while the integration is nice it seems that the search no longer looks in hidden or system folders, either that or I can't find the option.

Any ideas?

in Dolphin try enabling "show hidden files", alt+.
I think they need to be shown for them to be searched

Thanks for the suggestion unfortunately I had already tried this (and the option to search 'Everywhere').

If I start from a hidden folder and run the search it will find files but only those in the folder and its sub-folders.

confirmed: from ~/ I searched for "amarokrc" and no result was found, starting at ~/.kde4 the file was found so I can confirm your experience

personally I still use kfind as there's more options and it works as expected, miss it being embedded as it was in the 4.5.x series (of course can't remember if that was Konq and Dolphin or just Konqueror)

please file a bug report

There is already a bug report for this:

This may be due to Dolphin respecting Strigi's preferences, which disable indexing for all ~/.* directories. You can change these preferences in System Settings.

It is a bug that it didn't fallback to using manual search though (which it did at least for me when I was in an unindexed dir - maybe it doesn't handle combining both well....)

The bug listed above is still open. Does this mean searching for hidden files from Dolphin 2.0 is still not working?

@bcooksley
System Settings no longer offers this option from what I can see...
Is there an alternate way to enable search for ~/.* files?

I'm afraid that it does indeed not work in Dolphin 2.0 (I actually found out by trying, I'm not involved in any of the search stuff).

@freininghaus
Thank you. Perhaps others in time will provide some more information about this issue.

Hello, I'm seeing this same issue with dolphin 14.12.3, KDE 4.14.6.
Disabling Baloo does not work, I also tried appending the following lines into baloofilerc:

index hidden files=true
index hidden folders=true

It didn't work either.

Also found that searching from Krunner does not work, maybe because it uses Baloo desktop search too.

Any idea/workarround to solve this? (yes, I know that kfind works, but I want to be able to search from my file manager)
