Slow Dolphin and filedialogs

Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:21 pm
Hey everyone,

I'm currently using two different notebooks: a Dell XPS with a new and shiny Kubuntu and a Thinkpad
with ArchLinux. And both machines do I experience awkward behaviour if I
  • open dolphin
  • navigate to a folder in dolphin
  • open a filedialog
  • navigate to a different folder in the dialog
  • in filedialog: dragging a folder to the "places" panel (note: no need to drop).

What does happen?
  • my hard drive makes noise
  • the dialog freezes, depending on the machine it may be longer than a second
  • everything works smooth again

When I write a little python script that does nothing else than open a native filedialog,
I get the following output the stdout.
KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/tobias/.config/ibus/bus

What did i try?
  • deactivating nepomuk / strigi does not help
  • deactivating the information panel in dolphin does not help
  • touch ~/.config/ibus/bus or mkdir -p ~/.config/ibus/bus does not help
  • deactivating desktop effects does not help
  • ksysbuildcoca --noincremental does not help

I also did not find a bug mentioning this. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this?

Deactivating tooltips in dolphin and removing trash:// and my dvd drive from the "places" panel solved it.
