Hi there!
When I copy files to a USB key or disk with Dolphin, and then do the "Safely remove" thing, it turns out that the files are not really written in the key. If I do exactly the same thing with nautilus, everything works perfectly. Did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance for your help. Martin PS: Ubuntu 11.10; KDE 4.7.4. Not sure when the problems appeared; though I pretty sure it used to work perfectly fine.

This is extremely concerning. Prior to performing the safe eject procedure, can you confirm there is no file copying still in progress, and that the data is fully written to the flash drive when you remove it?

The copying is indeed faster than it should be, but it is clearly over when I do the safe eject.

If you open a Konsole terminal, can you type "mount" both before inserting a flash drive, after opening it in Dolphin, and after safely ejecting it - and post the output of the three runs here?

Sure. Mounting the key adds the following line:
/dev/sdc1 on /media/7079-847A type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uid=1000,gid=1000,shortname=mixed,dmask=0077,utf8=1,showexec,uhelper=udisks) Thanks. |

Hi everybody,
I've arrived this forum looking up a solution about the same issue, when i tried to copy a file using dolphin to an external media (usb stick, external HDD,etc) through usb, the copy procedure occurs really fast, but it doesn't sync the files. the only way to make sure that the copy of files completed correctly, is to wait for the device usb status led stops or enter the sync command in the terminal. Mount command shows this line for the usb...
I'm using KDE 4.6.5, Dolphin 1.6.1 and Fedora 15 x86_64. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Hi. Thanks for the help. What is the sync command? Martin

If you open Konsole, then run "sync" that will ensure all disks on your computer are synced with the Kernel's write caches.

Indeed, sync made the trick. Many thanks for your help. Should I fill a bug report? Martin

It is the responsibility of UDisks, which KDE asks to perform the mounting and unmounting of media to sync the disk properly. Unfortunately it seems it is not taking it's obligations here properly.
You may wish to file a bug report with the UDisks folks.
