Keyboard-based navigation in Dolphin [Question]

I use the dual-pane mode (side-by-side vertical panes) and "details" style listing.

I can move up and down and into and back the folder hierarchy within each of the panels provided I'm in it, but how do I move back and forth the panels? How do I go from the left to the right and from the right to the left, without using the mouse .

I can create a tab CTRL+T and assign a keyboard shortcut to "Activate Next Tab" and I can use that to go from tab to tab with a single keyboard action. But if I can't navigate within a tab between the left and right panels.

If you're familiar with Krusader or some other dual-pane navigator or commander, you know that this is typically done by using the "TAB" key. You tab once you move to the right, you tab again you move back to the left, etc..

In Firefox and others, you can use CTRL+TAB to navigate from one tab to the next. (I guess TAB alone was too simple)

In Dolphin, the closest I've come is something like SHIFT+TAB half a dozen times. Not close enough for my liking.

thanks!

P.S.1 I asked this very same question some years ago, was told there was no way to do that and thus started using Krusader. But now I'm having problems with Krusader --- it crashes Kwin, so I'm back trying to use Dolphin. I'm hoping it's been upgraded since.

P.S.2 In Kate I'm having problems too, btw, if I have multiple documents opened, can I navigate between them with a single keyboard action?

On my trunk system if I press tab a sufficient number of times, it does move me over to the splitted window. You are correct however in that there is no dedicated keyboard shortcut to switch between the two sides.

thanks bcooksley, is there absolutely no way to map a single shortcut to switch between the two sides?

I have not been using Dolphin for that reason alone, I otherwise like it a lot. I use other file managers I don't like half as much simply because of the way I work I NEED to be able to switch sides easily with a keyboard gesture...

Okay, so I discovered Xfe and it's doing a great job, so far, fingers crossed!

Tabbing in dolphin is also erratic - tabbing 3 times doesn't always produce the same result. I called up help but found that the help database for dolphin is not searchable. man dolphin got me the linux version of the blue screen of death ;)

bcooksley - do you know somebody who knows somebody *2 who might think it useful to make an application's help files searchable?

As far as I can see only the current page is searchable but I may be wrong.

Originally KHelpCenter supported search, but that functionality was removed as it was based upon htdig and severely broken (to the point that it did not work).

Adding that functionality back involves indexing docbook files, which is not an easy task.

Thanks, shame though it is.

I don't have any problems with krusader, can anybody confirm?

@ ptoche

As stated above, krusader does not conflict with my kwin which makes me wonder whether you've got the proper driver for your graphic card.
